چکیده

Intradiffusion coefficients of sodium alkylsulfonates [CH3-(CH2)n-1SO-3 Na+, CnSNa] (n = 5-9, 11) in mixtures with heavy water were measured by the PGSE-NMR technique at 25 degrees C. A slope change in the experimental trends permits the determination of the critical micelle concentration (CMC). In the micellar composition range, solubilized TMS molecules were used to determine the micelle intradiffusion coefficient, from which the micelle radii were obtained. Both the monomer surfactant and the micelle intradiffusion coefficients show a sharp decrease above the CMC. These results can be interpreted in terms of the obstruction effect due to the micelles. The electrostatic repulsion among charged particles strongly enhances this effect. A simple approach that permits the computation of the Gouy-Chapman layer thickness from the experimental coefficients has been proposed and the results are briefly discussed. Transport Properties for Aqueous Solution of Sodium Sulfonate Surfactants.

Isothermal mutual diffusion coefficients (D) have been measured for binary aqueous solutions of sodium alkylsulfonates at 25 degrees C. The diffusion coefficient values drop as the concentration of micelles in the system increases. As the length of the hydrocarbon chain increases, the observed drop in D becomes increasingly sharp and shifts to lower concentrations. When the micellization proces...

Dynamic contact angles on PTFE surface by aqueous surfactant solution in the absence and presence of electrolytes.

This study presents the experimental results on dynamic contact angles of pure surfactants and surfactants with electrolyte solutions on PTFE (Teflon) surface. Dynamic advancing (theta(A)) and receding (theta(R)) contact angles measurements by the Wilhelmy plate technique were carried out for aqueous solution of three different surfactants Triton X-100 (TX-100), sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate ...

Transport Properties of Carbon-Nanotube/Cement Composites

This paper preliminarily investigates the general transport properties (i.e., water sorptivity, water permeability, and gas permeability) of carbon-nanotube/cement composites. Carboxyl multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) are dispersed into cement mortar to fabricate the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) reinforced cement-based composites by applying ultrasonic energy in combination with the use of surf...

Surfactant-assisted synthesis of Barium hexaferrite nanoparticles by hydrothermal method

In the present work, the synthesis of Barium hexaferrite (BaFe12O19) nanoparticles in thepresence of a large excess amount of OH− anions by the hydrothermal method in the presence and absence of surfactants such as Sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate and Triton X-114 was reported. The optimized temperature in the absence of surfactant was determined (200 °C) and then Barium hexaferrite nanoparticl...

Removal of ionic dyes from water by solvent extraction using reverse micelles.

Several methods (e.g., UV/H2O2 oxidation, adsorption, flocculation-precipitation) are normally employed to remove dye from water. A new technique based on liquid/liquid extraction using reverse micelles is proposed whereby recovery of solvent and reuse of dye is possible. Experiments were conducted by mixing a known quantity of dye in aqueous phase and solvent-containing surfactants in a simple...
